The first settlement at Belgium was made in 1848. A large share of the early pioneer being natives of Belgium caused the name to be chose. A postal service called Belgium has been in operation since 1857. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the village has a total region of 2.42 square miles (6.27 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 2,245 citizens , 817 homeholds, and 608 families living in the village.
