Belmont is a village in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, United States.

Founded in 1835 by territory speculator John Atchison, Belmont was the initial capital of the Wisconsin Territory, and the initial territorial capitol building is preserved a several miles northwest of the village at First Capitol Historic Site.

The village is positioned inside the Town of Belmont.

According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the village has a total region of 0.88 square miles (2.28 km2), all of it land. Belmont Mound State Park is positioned northwest of the village.

As of the census of 2010, there were 986 citizens , 439 homeholds, and 279 families living in the village.

The populace density was 1,120.5 inhabitants per square mile (432.6/km2).

There were 454 housing units at an average density of 515.9 per square mile (199.2/km2).

The average homehold size was 2.25 and the average family size was 2.80.

The median age in the village was 39.8 years.

23.3% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 7.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 25.1% were from 25 to 44; 26.7% were from 45 to 64; and 18% were 65 years of age or older.

As of the census of 2000, there were 871 citizens , 377 homeholds, and 245 families living in the village.

The populace density was 1,511.6 citizens per square mile (579.8/km ).

There were 401 housing units at an average density of 695.9 per square mile (266.9/km ).

The ethnic composition of the village was 99.66% White, 0.11% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, and 0.11% from two or more competitions.

There were 377 homeholds out of which 24.1% had kids under the age of 18 residing with them, 52.0% were married couples residing together, 9.3% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 35.0% were non-families.

30.0% of all homeholds were composed of individuals and 17.2% had someone residing alone who was 65 years of age or older.

The average homehold size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.90.

In the village, the populace was spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
